Workers and residents at Bronxwood Assisted Living Facility, a nursing home that houses 277 adult patients from The Bronx and the Metropolitan Area, held a rally to denounce deteriorating working conditions for staff and to call on the facility’s new management to address workers’ concerns. The rally organized by UFCW Local 2013, was held in front of the facility at 799 E. Gun Hill Road, in Williamsbridge. Workers and facility residents exposed that under new management by The W Group (a citywide assisted living facilities operator), Bronxwood is drastically understaffed, which is endangering the quality of the care and services.
They also reported harassment, unpaid pandemic bonus, cut backs on essential supplies, reports of bed bugs and other sanitary conditions, and lack of safe and adequate equipment and facilities in common areas including the kitchen. At the rally held on Wednesday, November 10th, participants called on The W Group to fix the problems and re-engage in fair contract negotiations.
